Boka Buka Cipete

March 2, 2014

Boka Buka Cipete, this traditional french restaurant serves a homey feeling once you stepped into the restaurant. If you looked the restaurant from the outside, it looks just like another common restaurants, but the inside is something different. Even the washroom was designed like the one you have in your house.

The restaurant was pretty empty, maybe because it was lunch time. But it didn't stop me from trying it, because I heard from friends that this restaurant serves a really good escargot at a reasonable price.

So here's the review:

The waiter started with giving free amuse bouche of two small glasses of lemongrass. Then came the complimentary bread with garlic butter.

Bread with Garlic Butter
The garlic butter was good. If only they serve it in bigger portion... :p

Lemongrass
Loved the lemongrass

Escargots de Bourgogne (6 pcs)
Definitely one of the best escargots in town. Lots of garlic butter, which probably made it really tasty.

Green Olive Fetta Cheese Salad
Lovely Salad with olives and fetta cheese. yummy

Creamy Chicken Mushroom in Crepes
Great crepes. But could be better, they're missing something, but I don't know what. :p

Spaghetti Aglio Olio
Pretty good aglio olio.

Overall, it was great. I would definitely come back here again for the escargots, appetiser and salad. The main courses were not that spectacular. They're lacking the basic ingredients of the original taste.

Rate: 7/10
Price: $$$ (Spent around Rp. 300.000,- lunch for two)

Lyon (Saturday Brunch)

February 15, 2014

Visiting Lyon Restaurant for its Saturday brunch is never a bad choice. It was my second time going here and I had the same wonderful experience as I had last time. The menu was slightly different from the last time.

This buffet brunch is nothing like any other buffet in Jakarta. Probably this is the only hotel buffet with a fine dining service in Jakarta (correct me if i'm wrong). The waitresses would take your orders from the small menu on your table, and you can just order as many as you like and it will be served by the waitresses to your table.

You can also go to the hot corners which they serve fresh oysters, salad, fresh seafood, and cheese.
The food here are exceptional, apart from it being an expensive brunch, this is the place that I wanna spend every Saturday of my life (hahahaha :p).

Enough said, just look at the pictures yourself:

Foi Gras

Egg Florentine

Scallop

Risotto

Grilled Angus Beef Tenderloin

Quinoa, Fresh Fruit and Vegetables

Another Foi Gras :p

I went here with my girlfriend to celebrate valentine. It costed me around Rp. 450.000,- /  person included tax and service.

Koultura Coffee

February 08, 2014

On saturday morning, I visited this place for the first time. I've been wanting to go there for quite awhile but for some matters, today is finally the day.
I tried the breakfast and hot chocolate, coz I'm not a coffee guy.

Here's the pictures:

Hot Chocolate
Rp. 27.000,-
One of the best hot chocolate i've ever tried.

Egg Florentine

Egg Florentine
Rp. 40.000,-
This was just another common Eggs Benedict. Like what I've heard from my friends, this place is a really good coffee place. Well, I've tasted it myself and yes, only go to this place for the drinks.

Overall, it was a decent brunch or breakfast place. Good place to drink and chill, but definitely not the place you want to have a large meal.

Holy Gyu

February 2, 2014

This was my second time trying holy gyu. First time was great, that's why I came back here again for the 2nd time. Guess what, it was still great.

This restaurant serves Japanese style steak and it's owned by the same group who manages Loobie and Holy Cow. So if you like holy cow, you'd definitely like this new variation of steak serves in Japanese sauce.

The meat was tender and everything served was really good. I wouldn't say it was exceptional, but it was really great for the price.
Ranging from Rp. 100.000,- to around Rp. 250.000,- per meal, I'd say this is a real value for money restaurant.

As for the price written down under the image, I think it was around that price when I went there last time. ( I wrote this post in March, sorry :p)

Wagyu Tan
Rp. 125.000,-

Wagyu Shortrib Boneless
Rp. 142.000,-

Both of the meal were good. But if I were to pick which one was the best, I'd go for the short rib boneless anytime of the day. We also had the free tiramisu dessert by posting a post on twitter or path, but obviously I deleted the post after showing it. The tiramisu on the other hand, maybe because it was free, it was a disaster. Don't bother getting it for free or even pay for it.

Overall, it was a great lunch and I'd definitely come back for a good value for money japanese style steak.

Ya Udah Bistro

January 11, 2014

Ya Udah Bistro is located near jalan jaksa, sarinah. Serves german-(might I add)-inspired food. As the restaurant's quirky name suggests, it's more of a "let's make german food fitting to an Indonesian market" rather than an authentic german cuisine.
Parking wise, it's alright, if you're okay with walking a few meters away, especially on a busy night. What's great about this place is that the portions are generously big and the price is low. But apart from that, the flavour and taste were not that great. You could say I was a tad disappointed especially after all the raves that other food bloggers have put on this place.

The Lamb Burger
Rp. 53.500,-
The meat was too soggy and so was the fries. I wouldn't recommend you to try this when you're here.

Medallion Pork Fillet
Rp. 68.500,-
Probably the only good food I tried that night.

Soup of the Day (Carrot Soup)
+ Rp.10.000,- with one meal
A total disaster. A really tasteless soup. Couldn't say much really.

Chicken Mushroom Soup
Rp.35.500,-
The mushroom soup was pretty good. But not that special.

Farmer Bratwurst (Pork)
Rp.45.500,-
The sausage tasted weird, and the mashed potato tasted like it came out of a sachet, which it probably did, seeing I could still taste the powdery texture within it. (yikes!)

Overall it wasn't a really delightful experience but the bill was just as I expected it would be. Really cheap for German food but hey, you get what you pay for. For the cost, it's worth the try. Maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes.

Entrada RestoBar

January 4, 2014

On Saturday afternoon, my girlfriend and I visited Entrada Restobar, located in SCBD for the first time. Just a heads up, they're closed on Sundays so be sure to visit Monday-Saturday.

When we stepped into the restaurant we were in a bit of a shock because there were only two other people eating there. Interior wise; Beautiful stained glass windows, tiles that scream out 'Spain', wooden tables and chairs, colour-blocked walls, natural light seeping in from all directions. With that said though, it would definitely look a lot nicer at night.
Here's the interior:

Here's the review:

Sauteed Beef Tenderloin
Rp. 65.000,-
I love this Beef Tenderloin, the garlic and oil sauce were excellently matched the tenderness of the beef. I'd say this was the highlight of the tapas.

Sauteed Garlic Mushroom
Rp. Rp. 35.000,-
Pretty good tapas. I wouldn't pick this again the next time I visit this place.

Black and White Calamari Frietters
Rp. 48.000,-
Basically just calamari fried in black ink flour. Looks frightening, tastes just like fried calamari.

Beef Taco Spring Roll
Rp. 45.000,-
The spring roll wasn't that nice, but the two accompanying sauces made it worthwhile.

Linguini Carbonara (Turkey Bacon)
Rp. 70.000,-
Good Pasta. I really didn't expect that the pasta would turned out to be this good. Since it's a spanish restaurant. Not too creamy, delicious.

Overall it was a pleasant lunch. I'd definitely come back here again to try the other tapas that I haven't tried and probably come here at night to experience a different ambience. I can imagine them playing more lively music then.

DaiTokyo (past: Manpuku & Kushigin)

Monday, 30 December 2013

If any of you know Manpuku, you'd been devastated as much as I when they closed down. Well good news! They just re-opened a week ago under the name DaiTokyo. This new restaurant is a combination of both Manpuku and Kushigin, serving both menus under one roof.

Location wise, it's squeezed within Melawai (Blok M Square) a few rukos away from Kira-Kira Ginza, right next to Optik Seis. It's under the same group of Daisei, who manages Kira-Kira Ginza, Ichigo Ichie, Jurin, Manpuku, Kushigin, and Ramen 38.

Here's the review of the restaurant:

The Menu

The interior

Interior wise, we enjoyed sitting in the simple Japanese inspired rooms. Two levels, the top level sits those who want to grill meat on their tables and ground level have standard tables and chairs placed in 'cage'-like spaces. If you want more privacy, sit on the ground floor.

Hourenso Butter
Rp. 35.000,-
The best hourenso butter you could find in town. You can taste the richness of the butter. Lol. Cholesterol much.

Yukari Gohan
Rp. 16.000,-
Salty rice with seaweed sprinkles.

We ordered:
Negishiotan
Rp.75.000,-
It's a gyutan or beef tongue. All of the meats here were marinated for hours so you can definitely eat it straight without any dippings or if it's too salty for you, you can always dip it in the lemon that they provide.

Roast
Rp.75.000,-
Simply tasteful. The beef meat was marinated and it gives you a very delightful flavour. It's also pretty tender.

Buta Tan
Rp.55.000,-
Pork tongue. They cut it in big slice so it tastes different with the negishiotan. It's juicy and yummy.

Butabara
Rp.40.000,-
Pork meat. Very delicious, mouth watering and fatty.

Overall it was a delightful experience after a long wait for Manpuku to re-open. Would I eat here again? Definitely. Health-considerations, I'll give myself a week or two wait before I start taking friends here.
